Our beaded sardine bag in a deep, saturated navy. Against the darker weave, the glass-beaded sardines catch the light a little differently, every bead still placed by hand across roughly five hours of work. Hundreds of beads go into each bag, and because it is all done by hand, no two are ever identical.
The bag is handwoven in Bangladesh by artisans earning Fair Trade wages, then personalized with your monogram to become a true one-of-one. What's the story behind the factory? Following the 1971 war that established Bangladesh and brought with it poverty and disease, Saidpur Enterprises began in 1976 as a project to help the mothers of malnourished children with emloyment producing jute handicrafts and now supports artisans selling for a larger fair trade export market.They also provide literary classes, training on nutrition, women's legal rights, educational awareness and finance.
