Our Story

My brothers and I grew up in Santa Barbara, and our parents made sure we didn’t turn into total Southern California monsters. They dragged us around the world early and drilled in one idea: teach people how to fish.

Along the way, we realized there are plenty of great fishermen out there — they just don’t always have the right bait or a big enough pond. So we started co-designing products with communities and cooperatives and connecting them to bigger markets. We called it Apolis — “global citizen” — because everyone deserves a fair shot.

Investing in People

Every market bag is handcrafted in Bangladesh by hundreds of mothers who receive Fair Trade-certified wages, annual profit dividends, and a retirement fund. The bags are then shipped to Los Angeles, California, where a growing team of 13 people print one-of-a-kind customizations onto the bag.

"That tangible connection to a human, not a factory, he notes, illustrates the potential of business to help – even in a complicated, and corrupt business like fashion – and customers appreciate that."
