We are privileged to release the Apolis + Old Faithful Vancouver Market Bag, exclusively sold at Old Faithful in Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada. This is our 24th Local + Global project, connecting regional retailers with our global advocacy and helping to create consistent employment for artisans in rural Bangladesh.

Old Faithful is located in Gastown, which according to Owner Walter Manning is the “original Vancouver, where it all began.” The area took hold with the expansion of the Canadian Pacific Railway back in 1887–a tremendous exertion of effort and human ingenuity that stitched together an entire nation. When the final rail spike was hammered into place, trade flowed from land to sea and Gastown became a vibrant, flourishing area chalk full of goods and services.

This mix of history, character, and old architecture drew Old Faithful to Gastown. The shop is inspired by General Stores of the past–busy storefronts acting as an exchange for goods and services, and also as a gathering place to meet old friends and make new ones. The Old Faithful management sees Gastown as more than just the oldest part of the city, but also an emerging cultural hub. Amongst the ghost signs, brick, and cobblestone are some of the city’s most creative and inspiring entrepreneurs. Many young artists, designers, and architects call the area home and there is a real creative energy in the area. Coffee Shops are major pit-stops throughout the day while taverns and pubs ease the spirit when night falls. A quick jump across the rail tracks will land you in Crab Park--a quiet enclave with a beach overlooking the harbor--a great place to soak some sun and crack a cold brew. The perfect way to end a Gastown Day.

We are honored to partner with Old Faithful, our first Local + Global retailer in Canada, and a shop that has a strong local presence in their community. Additionally, this partnership means our project which began a year ago to connect urban retailers to rural Bangladesh now spans six countries across four continents.
